Winnipeg in-person ‘Blood Cancer Connect & Learn’ conference

More than 72 people impacted by blood cancer came together from across Manitoba to learn more about blood cancer from medical experts, and to connect with each other over brunch at a downtown Winnipeg hotel. It was the first in-person conference held by the LLSC in the region since before the pandemic.

Dr. Ivan Landego, a medical oncologist and hematologist at the University of Manitoba, presented on the topic, CAR-T therapy comes to Manitoba.

Dr. Lynda Balneaves, a professor and associate dean, research, at the U of Manitoba’s college of nursing, spoke about complementary and integrative medicine.

Dr. Paul Daeninck, a medical oncologist and palliative care consultant connected with CancerCare Manitoba and U of Manitoba, discussed pain management strategies during and after cancer treatment.

The conference provided a valuable platform for people living with a blood cancer, their caregivers, and healthcare professionals to share experiences, gain knowledge, and build a supportive community dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by blood cancer.

Some of the comments from the attendees included:

“The lunchtime presentation of the survivor story was great. It was nice to hear from survivors/patients regarding their journey.”

“The information presented was clear, understandable for someone who isn’t a healthcare professional.”

“The event exceeded my expectations!”

“I really appreciated the opportunity for questions and open discussions after each presentation.”
