LLSC & CANO formalize and extend collaboration

Nurses in oncology are a vital pillar of care for Canadians affected by a blood cancer, and as such the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) is a vital partner in mutual advocacy, education, services and outreach. They share culturally sensitive approaches to the work serving the blood cancer community in Canada.

To further extend their collaboration, raise awareness on blood cancers, and to formalize their commitment to their partnership, the CANO and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) represented by Pascale Rousseau, LLSC Community Programs Manager, and Lorelei Newton, CANO President for 2023/24.

The LLSC attended the 36th annual CANO conference, this year in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Christina Sit, Manager, Strategic Community Partnerships, LLSC presented on the role of nurses in providing feedback about patients and cancer treatments in LLSC’s submissions to Canada’s Drug Agency (formerly CADTH).

Pascale Rousseau presented on LLSC community services and programs at the conference. She is shown here (in the photo at the top of this article) with Christina Sit and CANO Executive Board members, Catriona Buick, new CANO president, and Charissa Cordon, CANO Vice-President who is responsible for partnerships.

LLSC had the opportunity to have a booth, to present our programs, services and great tools to help the community navigate the blood cancer experience. As well, LLSC presented a poster about the importance of peer support for people impacted by a cancer.
