You are not alone.

Sometimes as a caregiver, you may feel alone in your experience of supporting your loved one through their cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

As a caregiver, you deserve the support and resources to help you effectively care for your loved one, even when it feels like you should be able to handle it all on your own. For those days when it seems like the others just “don’t get it” and you have no one to turn to, we can help connect you with someone who has been in a similar role of supporting their loved one through a blood cancer experience.

“If I had met someone else caring for a loved one with cancer I would have asked, ‘what are your tricks for staying positive? Is your loved one stubborn, too? It would have been nice to bounce things off them to get clarity and perspectives"

- Maurice, caregiver to husband Trevor with lymphoma

How First Connection works

When you sign up for First Connection, you will be matched with a trained volunteer (peer) who has firsthand experience caring for someone with a blood cancer. Your match can be determined by age, type of diagnosis, gender (if requested) or the issue that is most concerning to you. Anyone caring for someone with a blood cancer can connect with a peer who’s been there.

A First Connection volunteer is a blood cancer caregiver. As a peer, they are trained to listen and offer a deep level of understanding and insight by sharing their own experience. Talking to a peer can reassure you about what’s ahead.

There is no charge to participate in this program.
